CM MODELS

Truly efficient catamarans designed and
engineered to sail in very light winds,
outrun bad weather and cruise the world
in cool simplicity

CM catamarans deliver the performance, accommodation and payload that a growing group of knowledgeable sailors, typically coming from fast monohulls or moving up from heavier catamarans, desire for maximum enjoyment of short and long-term cruising – or even, with the appropriate specification, for race capability.

CM46 overview

The CM46 is large enough for a couple with family or friends and long enough for good seakeeping qualities, whilst remaining easy to handle alone and manageable in harbour.

The boat prioritises well-mannered performance and provides everything you need to enjoy a fabulous live-aboard lifestyle, while avoiding unnecessary complexities that decrease reliability and add weight and cost.

CM53 overview

The CM53 offers the space and payload to cruise in style with family and friends. Her length gives exceptional seakeeping qualities and long-legged motion, yet her light weight allows a modest sized rig which can be easily handled by a couple.

High-tech structures

We use the materials and controlled build processes generally found only in a few larger, high-end boats – and bring them to smaller catamarans, using our many years of experience creating very light multihulls.

Epoxy resin, infused and post cured

Optimum strength resin system, as used by the best race-boat builders for the most demanding applications. Epoxy resin is not only the strongest, it also has zero water absorption and this combination maximises the lifespan of the boat.

Carbon and E-Glass

Carbon fibre is used for local reinforcement as standard, with various options up to full carbon construction to achieve optimal weight and strength to suit individual budgets. Laminates specs are engineered to suit each part of the boat and include extra strengthening in the bow area to minimise collision damage.

PVC core

Closed cell PVC core throughout for high stiffness to weight ratio, with no water absorption in the event of localised damage.

Superior internal finish

Our lamination and infusion process delivers an excellent base-level interior surface, which we fair and paint to finish. This adds many man-hours but avoids the weight penalty of rougher internal laminate with the cosmetic need for panelling to hide it.

Foam cored furniture

Ultra-light and laminated in to add to the structure and eliminate creaking.

We acknowledge there are many aspects of building new yachts that are imperfect from a sustainability perspective. There are, however, areas we can tackle and CM yachts have attributes to provide a step in the right direction.

SUSTAINABILITY

Less materials

Due to their high tech construction our boats are half, or even one third the weight of many cruising catamarans. This means only a fraction of the composite materials are used in building a CM.

Less time under power

This is a true measure of efficiency as sailing is fundamentally, of course, a sustainable way to travel. CM catamarans are able to sail in only a few knots of wind so motoring time is absolutely minimised.

Small engines

Light, easily driven boats require relatively small engines so, when unavoidably needing to motor during calms and when docking etc, diesel consumption is low.

Renewable power generation on board

Solar – We offer options for large solar arrays mounted on the cabin top and coach roof, generally able to meet energy requirements at anchor.
Hydrogeneration – The fast speeds typically enjoyed under sail by a CM means hydrogeneration, using an optional Watt & Sea unit, is highly efficient on passage.

Eliminate need for generator

The opportunity for significant renewable energy generation means the need for a generator can be usually be eliminated. If additional charge is occasionally required, one of the main diesel engines can be used, relatively efficiently due to its small size.

Electric cooking

High levels of renewable power generation also allow the option of electric cooking, eliminating gas on board.

Electric / diesel hybrid option

We offer the option of twin electric motors with a single diesel generator range extender, should this configuration suit your planned use of the boat.

Anything but single use!

Our catamarans are built from high quality materials that offer a long lifespan, with capability to cover large mileage over many years, in the hands of multiple owners.

We will continue to develop sustainable practices in the manufacture and specification of CM catamarans – the job is ongoing and will probably never be done!
